Brother Carl D. Smith

 -1975-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual Installation of Officers was held on December 14, 1974 and Mrs. Kathleen Bretz sang 2 songs. The Fresno Commandry Knights Templar presented the flag. Light refreshments were served afterwards and a good time was enjoyed by all.

In the stated meeting of March, Bro. Alan Burnham stated that he had found considerable interest in the formation of a life membership fund and suggested that a committee be formed looking onto such an idea.

In April the Clovis chapter of DeMolay were having some problems that were addressed by two members of the Lodge. All of the brethren were asked to give all of the support to the DeMolay boys that the members could.

On May 1st, which was Past Masters Night, Senior Past Master George Talbert asked Bro. Thomas Howison Jr. to meet him west of the Alter, and he presented Bro. Howison with a picture of himself and was told that he could hang the picture anywhere in the Lodge he wanted to hang it. Bro. Talbert was Master in 1935 when Bro. Howison was first elected to be Secretary. Bro. Howison expressed his gratitude for this honor and for the greater honor of serving and working with the 40 Masters over the past 40 years.

In July the motion to form a life membership fund passed by motion and vote. So the fund was implemented and it still remains in effect to this day.

In September Past Master C. Sam Johnson proposed and it appears to be generally accepted that the Secretary be allowed to remain seated at the stated meetings.

On November 9th Bro. Louis Daniel Dwight passed away in Fresno at the age of 102 years, 8 months, and 4 days old. Bro. Dwight was very active in Clovis Lodge as Organist and Candidates Coach. Many old friends and brethren attended the service honoring his memory.

Also in November it was noted that the Lodge needed to be paying more attention to the Masonic Widow's who were left behind by our fallen brethren.

At the Roll Call meeting the Lodge was called to refreshment and the officers of the Rainbow Assembly 51 were escorted into the Lodge room and there thanked for all of their hard work in getting the trestle board out and for other items. The officers then presented a check for $100.00 to purchase a name plate for Rainbow Girls on one of the Lodge chairs, which the Building Fund graciously received.

Brethren lost to death in this year were, William Whitsell Terry, Arch Donald McDougold, Benjamin Harrison Byrd, William Lee Martin, Walter Blaine Edwards, Leonard Albert Thompson, Frank Royal Purcell, Howard Curtis Corlew, Charles Glenn Beach, Fred Ernest Lott, Louis Maxwell Whitney, Robert Earl Boone, and Louis Daniel Dwight.
